Tyler Character Concepts

Here's the designs for the character Tyler. This is a character who is going to be very defined by his personality and childlike nature. I started trying to make the character look younger but the younger look doesn't seem to match up very well with Logan's look. I want the two characters to be the same age so I threw in some facial hair and glasses in some to make him look a little older. My only concern is that having two characters with glasses and facial hair might be a little much.

I like the longer hair designs because it makes him look more like what I picture in my head when I think of a 22 year old artist. Ironically I'm a 22 year old artist and I'm bald.... I think if I made the glasses sunglasses instead of regular glasses and have them only be in certain strips the balance might work a little better..... we'll see

Logan Finalized

I ended up settling on the design with the chin hair and glasses. The more I sketched the more this felt natural for the character. I think the 5 o'clock shadow looks interesting in the final copy as well so I'm going to keep that.

Right now I'm thinking that the comic is going to be in black and white with a few grayscale patterns like in Logan's hair. I'm also thinking about changing Logan's name to James with Logan as his last name. James Logan or Logan James, both seem to have a nice ring to it.

Logan Character Concepts

Here's some of the concepts I'm considering for the look of Logan, one of the two main characters in my new comic strip I'm working on. He's heavily based on a sketch I did of myself in a special strip for my other comic, Fish out of Water. Right now I'm heavily leaning towards the Bottom Left and the Top Middle. I really like the look of the 5 o'clock shadow for the hair and the chin hair. I'm still rather undecided on the glasses though. One of the two main characters will have glasses so I might wait till I sketch out the other character to see which is more fitting.

Full Color Alchemist

I've been slacking on uploading sketches lately because I've been swamped with work. I have done some hand studies that I hope to have uploaded later this week. For now though I figured I'd post this full colored version of a sketch I did a week or so ago.

The Shadow of the Bat . . . . kinda

Terry McGinnis as Batman from Batman Beyond. A very under appreciated show that needs an ongoing comic to take its place.

This started off as lineart that I was going to turn into a finished project in photoshop but I decided to finish inking it by hand. I still might photoshop it later but for now I'm just gonna chalk it up to a practice piece.

The Full Metal Alchemist

After all the mannequin sketching I wanted to sketch a pose and flesh out a character from it. I decided to do Edward Elric in mid transmutation. It's a pose thats been used many times before and this particular angle has probably even been used but this sketch was still from scratch so I feel accomplished. I might try some more upper body characters similar to this. I've been trying some Cyclops sketches but I just can't get the pose right yet . . .

Also, I decided to ink this one since I was so happy with it. It's been a while since I've inked something by hand.

Back to the Basics

This a collection of all my practice sketches today. I figured I'd take a step back and practice basic mannequin poses. I think I'm gonna try and do a lot of these. A few of the poses were straight out of a How to Draw Anime book and the rest were me drawing poses I found characters in from comic books I have.

The mannequin design I use is based on a few different designs I saw in art books with an added touch or two that make more sense to me like ab lines and such.
